New State
Day 11
We spent the night at Lolo Hot Springs. People have been coming to this location to bathe in the hot springs since Lewis and Clark came through here. The route drops out of the mountains following Lolo creek to the Bitterroot valley, named after the Bitterroot River. Interestingly the Bitterroot river flows north to Missoula where it joins the Clark Fork. The Clark Fork travels north and feeds into Lake Pend Oreille, one of the deepest lakes in the country.
I could tell when I got on the bike today that I had left my legs in camp. The first part wasn't too bad, being downhill, but very gently with a negative gradient of 1 to 2 %. I hopped on a Bike Path just as I entered Lolo and stayed on one heading south, not very fast. There was a gradual uphill. Tonight we are camped just south of Hamilton. Tomorrow, we cross the continental divide for the first time. Thunderstorms hit after I got to camp. Rain tomorrow?
