Rain and Wind

 Day 22

Today the route takes us further east and south from Jeffrey City to Rawlins.  Rawlins sits along interstate 80.  In the course of  the ride,  we cross the continental divide twice.  The continental divide hiking trail and the Great Divide Bike Route (offroad) converge on Rawlins.

As I set out this morning, about 8 miles down the road, the crew was out paving.  I had to stop for a while and was chatting with the flagger. He mentioned that they were expecting a storm.  I looked around and saw a bunch of ominous clouds behind me and some virga.   Not too much farther down the road, it started to rain.  Out comes the rain jacket and hat.  By the time I got situated, it stopped.   This happened again further down the road.  It was a strong headwind the whole time.  The first continental divide climb wasn't too steep, and the wind died down slightly.

The background is a good representation of all of the scenery today. There was about 25 miles between the first climb and the second climb.   Just at the foot of the second climb, I came across Andy, a cross country cyclist that we had chatted with on top of Togwotee Pass a few days ago.  Just then the sky opened up and it started raining hard.  Some thunder, but didn't see any lightning.  Out came the rain gear, and we headed off up the climb.  I climb much faster than he,( he is fully loaded and self supporting), so I didn't see him again.

The second pass was slightly higher.

Finally got into Rawlins.

Tomorrow,  I head east to Riverside.  Leslie is staying behind waiting for a part for the RV.
