Fast, Then Leg Breakers
Day 18.
Today the route takes us south from Henry Lake to the town of Ashton, then making our way from Ashton to Tetonia, just west of the Grand Teton foothills.
Along the way, we pass the Island Park Caldera which was once the active geographical site for the hotspot that is now under Yellowstone. There is a whole chain of calderas across southern Idaho and northern Oregon and out to sea that document the motion of the continental plate over the hotspot.
The Island Park Caldera blasted out about 600 cubic Miles of ash that underlies all of the geography in this area. It's referred to as the Huckleberry Ridge Tuff. South of Ashton the land is mostly farmed, wheat and seed potatoes.
We have covered about 1100 miles so far. Today I had my first flat tire. Roadside repair in 5 minutes and good to go.
Tomorrow we go through Grand Teton National Park, and enter our 4th State, Wyoming.
