Hills and more Hills
Day 31
Started off fairly early, the day promised to be muggy and hot. Went south from the campground, and took a route slightly to the east to rejoin the TransAmerica route in Everton. Stopped in Ash Grove for my first snack. As I was sitting there, a fellow drove up and asked if I needed anything. Mike turned out to be a very nice guy and gave some insight to what lay ahead.
Headed north out of Ash Grove, and passed by Nathaniel Boone's Homestead, now a state park. Nathaniel was one of Daniel Boone's sons. Also an unplanned dog sprint in this area. Who knew I could pedal at 150 rpm?.. The day was similar to the second half of yesterday with unending hills.
Stoppped when my route crossed Rt 7 at a little store for something cold to drink. They had my sign their cyclist book. I saw the signature of the two guys from Colorado that passed me going the other way yesterday.
On through Walnut Grove to Fair Grove, where I stopped for lunch. I was sopping wet from sweat, bought a cold sweet tea and had my sandwich in a local park. Expected 20 miles to my destination Marshfield, but it turned out to be only 16.
The whole day consisted of somewhat slowly climbing uphill, then rolling as fast as possible downhill to get a start on the next hill. Fortunately a wind out of the west persisted for most of the day.
Here's a profile for the day.
